z8ybvWplJh4&eurl=The feisty U.S. veterans' group VoteVets are back with a message for Congress: if you support war escalation, you don't support the troops. They're aiming to put a powerful new TV ad on the air during the Super Bowl in Washington, DC urging nearby Senator John Warner (R-VA)-a top Republican-to stop the escalation. To get it on the air they need to raise $91,000 today. Can you chip in $25? Even if they can't raise enough money to run the ad during the Superbowl, help spread the word so as many people as possible get to hear this important message. » original news

Loving your bike may seem like an odd object on to which to place your affections, but Manchester Friends of the Earth and the city council want us to do just that! Now I do actually in general quite like my bike. I'm in the fortunate position of having a route to work which is now 80% off road. On a warm summer's evening the trip along the Tyne is a pleasure. However if you hate the thought of even having a bike, then the FoE and Manchester City Council are keen to change your mind. The site has lots of general info on why cycling is good for you - if you truly love yourself, you'll love your bike. There is also an interactive site showing safe routes to and from the city centre plus a neat blogging\mapping feature so you can identify good points and danger areas on the routes. Nice if you live in Manchester.Visit this site and then challenge your city, town or district council to do the same. » original news

Enough is a new non-violent campaign to end the occupation. The campaign is supported by War on Want, the Green Party, NUS and many trade unions. The campaign is launched at the end of January and will culminate in a rally in London in June 2007. There is a petition to sign.
As the UK is bracing itself against the severe weather, scientists argue that it is the result of Global Warming, and we are to expect more and more of this freak weather in the coming years. In our unique position as being custodians of the earth, we must all do our bit to ensure that we can pass it onto our children in the same state we inherited it in. So, what can WE do? Well, lets all add one thing to this post that we can do in order to halt climate change. I'll start with walk short journeys (or use a pedal bike). Not only are we preventing pumping carbon into the atmosphere, we are also getting fit too!
Giving blood is such a simple act. You get to sit down for 30 minutes and get a free cup of tea and a biscuit. Best of all you get to top up the vital blood supplies needed by patients across the country. If you're too busy, too squeamish or can't be bothered the Blood website provides plenty of motivation and reassurance that this is fundamentally simple process. You can even watch a virtual blood donor session to see exactly what happens. For me the most convincing area of the site is the area that shows the current stock of the blood that is left at current rate of usage. On the day I looked there was just 8 days of type-O blood left. Apparently that is normal. The Blood Service has hundreds of sessions running every day across the country to keep that topped up, but that still means people like us turning up and giving blood.A few ideas to make sure you get started:1) Convince a friend and go together – more fun and less daunting.2) If you work for a big company the Blood Service might be able to run a session at your workplace. More convenient for everyone and will make your boss feel like s/he is doing something positive.3) Become a Blood Service volunteer at your community centre, college or workplace. There are lots of details on their website about how you can help.Go on pop out for lunch time pint today! » original news

Stop in next time and you might be pleasantly surprised what you find.I'm a native of Westerly, Rhode Island, and now live in the U.K., so I don't get to visit "home" very often. In a nostalgic moment on a recent trip home, I stopped into the "The Artist Cooperative Gallery of Westerly" on Main Street, not expecting much. Wow!
